Wederom een aflevering van de wekelijkse podcast met +Sam Rijver waarin we het nieuws bespreken dat ons deze week heeft bezig gehouden.

Gisteren hebben +Sam Rijver en ik Signal to Noise Ratio podcast nummer 5 weer opgenomen. Het belangrijkste onderwerp was digitale eigendommen. Zijn die overdraagbaar? Wat gebeurt ermee als je overlijdt en kun je ze tweedehands verkopen?
Dit is aflevering 4 van de SNR podcast, opgenomen op de dag dat Google's nieuwe privacy policy inging. We bespreken dat met Riël Notermans van zzapps.nl.
Is it just me or is RSS coming to an end? First of, for those that don't know what RSS is, RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication. It is used to publish frequently updated works—such as blog entries, news headlines, audio, and video—in a standardized format. It is a benefit to readers who want to subscribe to timely updates from favorite websites or to aggregate feeds from many sites into one place. (Source: Wikipedia)
I have been using RSS for years now and my favorite Reader has always been Google Reader. But lastly I tend to see that the amount of updates is staggering. In my own statistics can only see the last 30 days, so that is not giving enough insight. I am subscribing to new feeds every week and although the total amount of subscribed feeds is growing the amount of articles seems to stay almost the same. It could be that I am getting more efficient at reading them, that's why I looking for some statistics. But I also see that the amount of stale feeds, without updates, is rising. While I am subscribing to new feeds I also remove almost half that amount of stale feeds.
Below is an interesting graph from my Reader. Since I have moved to this new account last year, this is the total amount of articles split by day. The reason of course why I am writing this today is because Sunday gives me historically not a lot of news.
What could be the reason behind this? Assuming of course that my assumption is right. Could it be that websites do not install rss-feeds anymore? It happens more and more that I run into websites that don't have an rss-feed. Could it be that we get into more social sharing like Twitter, Google Plus and Facebook? The goog thing about that is of course that the new is then being filtered by your sociograph, my own experience is that social media is not better at filtering than I do in my own Reader. But I must also admit that I don't subscribe to feeds that have 200 posts per week. For that I rely on the social media filtering.
What are you opinions? Are you still using an rss-reader? Are there any stats available on the total amount of feeds and posts? Is social media replacing rss? I am really curious to the answers.

I’ve learned that talking to the press is like talking to the police — ideally, don’t, since your interests conflict and there’s little to no potential upside for you — but I regularly forget or ignore this wisdom.
Usually, I can sniff out a bad story by the interview request, and I’ll just decline to comment. But sometimes I mistakenly accept a bad interview and give quotes that get distorted, and the resulting story can be pretty far from the truth.
Been there, done that, seen the movie. I try very hard to find out what the real motivation behind an interview is, but still it can bite me in the back. Most of them won't let you review the article before they publish it and even then, the intentions of the reporter can be different than the ones redacting it.
Na een aantal pogingen met technische problemen is hier dan eindelijk een aflevering van SNR. Eindelijk de echte eerste aflevering van de podcast van Sam eN Ronny, SNR, Signal to Noise Ratio. Eenmaal terug begonnen er wat meer mensen op het ijs te komen en begon het community werk zich voort te zetten. Er was ondertussen een man of 8 met sneeuwruimers bezig om de baan breder te maken. Voor mij de stoere taak om een nieuw deel op nog onontgonnen gebied te ruimen. Dit is het deel waar de Kloosterwiel aan de Waal ligt en waar volgens mij een paar graden warmer kwelwater binnenkomt, maar dat weet ik niet zeker. Uiteindelijk lag ook daar een baan en werd die alweer door 2 man verbreed.
Tenslotte heerlijk een flink aantal rondes gedraaid en genoten van het begin van het schaatsseizoen dit jaar. Gelukkig gaat dat de hele week nog door en hopen we natuurlijk met zijn allen dat dat nog een extra week aanhoudt.
